Audits to target mine safety in Queensland
A series of safety audits is being conducted at a number of mines across Queensland.
A number of safety audits will be carried out at several mines over the next three to six months. Mine inspectors will arrive unannounced to conduct the audits, which will focus on safety systems and will include extensive site inspections.
With the assistance of external mining specialists, inspectors will target a range of coal and metalliferous mines based on their recent incident record and potential high-risk areas.
Inspectors involved in the audits will include those who are familiar with the sites, and others who aren't normally inspectors of these particular mines.
Key areas to be examined include strata control, ventilation, fire prevention, vehicle control, fatigue management and electrical safety.
