The Australian Skills Vouchers program
The Australian Skills Vouchers program began on 1 January 2007 with the goal of strengthening workers' skills and developing a more qualified workforce.
Two different types of voucher are available:
- a $3000 Work Skills Voucher to assist with the costs of studying Year 12 or equivalent courses, vocational level certificate II qualifications and in some cases preparatory literacy and numeracy courses
- a $500 Business Skills Voucher aimed at Australian apprentices or newly qualified tradespersons in traditional trades as a contribution toward the costs of accredited business skills training
The $3000 Work Skills Vouchers are aimed at people aged 25 or over who do not have a Year 12 or equivalent qualification. Within this group, priority will be given to workers who wish to acquire qualifications, followed by income support recipients who will be required to find work within the next two years, job seekers participating in the Job Network and those outside the labour force.
The vouchers can be used at public, private or community training providers.
