Managing corruption risks associated with occupational licensing
A new publication by the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption provides important information to New South Wales public sector agencies and other organisations involved with occupational licensing.
Corruption risks in occupational licensing and strategies for managing them follows a number of recent Independent Commission Against Corruption investigations into occupational licensing matters. These investigations identified a variety of activities resulting in improperly obtained occupational licenses.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption Commissioner, the Hon. Jerrold Cripps QC, says that we all use the services of people who have been licensed to carry out their work, including car mechanics, electricians and doctors. It is therefore in the public interest for public sector agencies to have systems in place to minimise the risk of licenses being obtained inappropriately.
Corruption risks in occupational licensing and strategies for managing them was produced after consultation with a number of New South Wales agencies and includes a number of case studies.
