Illuminating international business at the Asian Pacific electrical conference

The Federation of Asian and Pacific Electrical Contractors Association (FAPECA) annual conference themed Business Opportunities Across International Borders is being held in Melbourne from 20 to 22 November 2006.

Delegates from 13 federation countries will canvass issues relevant to the industry in the Asian Pacific region.

The event is being hosted by the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA), the Australian association that represents the interests of electrical and communications contractors Australia-wide, from employers and business people to technicians.

National Electrical and Communications Association chief executive officer Peter Glynn says that the conference will consider the implications for electrical contractors of increasing globalisation and the decreasing importance of regional borders.

The conference will examine three key aspects of this theme:

  • the principal who initiates the project and the ability of the industry to respond and deliver
  • mutual cooperation for contractors wanting to undertake projects in another country
  • technical skills and workforce mobility requirements for meeting the labour market and regulatory requirements of the host country and the regions.

Federation of Asian and Pacific Electrical Contractors Association members include Australia, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Taiwan and Singapore.

The federation was inaugurated in 1986 to unite the electrical contracting industry with a common goal. The sharing of information between federation members has increased understanding of how each country enhances electrical safety and standards through regulation, procurement and security of payment.
