Website launch - Builders Licensing Australasia

Builders Licensing Australasia is the name given to a committee to promote national consistency in builder regulation across Australia and New Zealand. The group comprises the building industry regulator from each state and territory in Australia and New Zealand.

Membership consists of:

  • Queensland Building Services Authority;
  • Home Building Service - New South Wales;
  • Building Commission - Victoria;
  • Office of Consumer and Business Affairs - South Australia;
  • Builders Registration Board - Western Australia;
  • Australian Capital Territory Land and Planning Authority;
  • Office of Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading - Tasmania;
  • Building Standards and Regulation Branch,Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources - Tasmania and the Tasmanian Compliance Corporation Pty Ltd;
  • Building Advisory Services, Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Environment - Northern Territory;
  • Competition Policy Branch, Ministry of Economic Development - New Zealand.

The committee was formely known as Building Licensing Australia, however with the introduction of New Zealand a name change was required to accurately reflect the membership.

The aim of Building Licensing Australasia is to ensure:

  • greater consistency amongst building regulators;
  • national uniformity in licence categories and technical qualifications;
  • greater flow and easier access to information between regulators;
  • a higher profile in relation to national and international building issues.

In August 2004, Building Licensing Australasia launched its website www.bla.net.au

  • licence searches: afacility to check if a builder or trade contractor is licensed across Australia and New Zealand;
  • chairman's report: a monthly update;
  • mutual recognition: a summary on how the Mutual Recognition Act and the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Act apply to builder and trade contractor licensing in Australia and New Zealand;
  • state pages: each state and territory in Australia and New Zealand has a separate page introducing themselves and listing the latest news items from their jurisdictions.
