Licensing issues national project update - forums

In October 2002 the Australian National Training Authority published a report titled A licence to skill - The implications of industry licensing for the implementation of training packages which aimed to examine approaches to harmonise and link vocational education and training sector qualification outcomes to industry regulatory and licensing arrangements.

The intention is to establish a process of assessment which will allow workers to be issued with a licence on completion of the relevant vocational education and training qualification.

State training authorities in all states and territories will be holding consultation forums over the next few months. Feedback from the state and territory forums will be used to develop a consultation paper for further discussion at a national forum.

These forums will be an opportunity for regulatory bodies and their stakeholders, registered training organisations, industry training advisory bodies, industry stakeholders, unions and government agencies to gain information and contribute to the debate concerning the links between training outcomes and licensing requirements.

This newsletter will keep you informed of the upcoming forum in your jurisdiction - South Australia is the first forum.

Occupational licensing forum - South Australia

If you are a stakeholder in an industry in which certain occupations require a licence, this forum will be of interest to you.

As a participant you will have the opportunity to contribute to a national dialogue concerning vocational qualification outcomes and licensing requirements.

Feedback from the state and territory forums will be used to develop a consultation paper for further discussion at a national forum in April 2004.

The executive summary of the report A licence to skill - The implications of industry licensing for the implementation of training packages can be accessed from the Australian National Training Authority website at www.anta.gov.au/publication.asp?qsid=406
